DAFNI is delighted to announce funding is now available to participate in the DAFNI Infrastructure Resilience Sandpit events!

The DAFNI Centre of Excellence will be hosting two sandpit events with associated funding to address grand-challenge problems for infrastructure resilience and challenges to data sharing, with a focus on the Transport and Energy sectors.

The aim of the Sandpit is for participants to network, leverage their experience and expertise to design innovative and collaborative feasibility studies. The Sandpits will be an interactive, inclusive, and free-thinking environments, where a diverse group of participants from a range of disciplines and backgrounds will work together over the course of the Sandpit process. The aim will be to immerse participants in collaborative thinking processes and ideas sharing to construct innovative approaches. They will be led and facilitated by the DAFNI programme team.

A total fund of £240,000 is available across the two Sandpit events, funded at 80% full economic cost (FEC), between 6-to-12-month projects. It is anticipated projects will be up to £50,000 at 100% FEC. DAFNI is expecting to fund 3 projects in each focus area: Transport and Energy. Projects from the Transport sandpit will be expected to start on the 1st of April 2024 and finish before the 31st of March 2025. Projects from the Energy sandpit will be expected to start 1st of May 2024 and finish before the 31st of March 2025.

This funding opportunity is now open. More information is available through the DAFNI website where you can access additional details on the Sandpits and understand the type of feasibility studies that will be funded.

DAFNI will fund projects which develop and explore scenarios in response to a particular short-term or long-term shock and develop appropriate solutions which demonstrate an aspect of resilience. Of particular interest are scenarios which can be transferred from one geographic region to another, can be scaled up to a national scale, or explore the interactions between different infrastructure systems and with environmental and societal features in a multidisciplinary approach.

Projects should include how to access, use and combine data and computational models to evaluate and measure the impact of shocks, and propose appropriate responses and adaptations to further resist, absorb and recover from the shock event.

Visit the DAFNI website for further details and to apply.

Applications will be received up to and including the deadline of: 17:00 on Friday 19th of January 2024.
